The University of Utah School of Architecture has received approval to start a Study Abroad Program in Japan starting in Summer 2026.
The program is scheduled for approximately 10 days, from May 30 to June 9, 2026. It is open to both graduate and undergraduate students. We also welcome students outside the School of Architecture to join the program. Applications for this study abroad are due February 15, 2026.
This new study abroad program in Japan continues the DesignBuildUTAH philosophy, aiming to foster cultural and international exchange through an architectural lens by providing hands-on experience in rural Japan, going beyond typical tourism. Specifically, the core of the plan is a hands-on architectural experience in the Wajima area, which was affected by the 2024 New Year’s Day earthquake.
Assistant Professor Hiroko Yamamoto will serve as the faculty director for this new study abroad program in Japan. Additionally, participating students will be eligible to apply for the Study Abroad office’s scholarships in October and February. Please check the link below to apply for the scholarships.
