Hiroko Yamamoto is an Adjunct Assistant Professor in the College of Architecture and Planning at the University of Utah and runs the DesignBuildUTAH program in partnership with her husband Atsushi Yamamoto. Born in Nagoya, Japan, Hiroko studied architecture and received her Master of Architecture from Kobe University. She worked with Kinya Maruyama on design-build workshops for several years before joining DesignBuildUTAH@BLUFF. During the works with Kinya Maruyama, she had the experience of learning about the Japanese plaster things and craftsmanship from Naoki Kusumi who is one of the representatives of Japanese plasterers. Through the experience, she learned the importance of practical architectural learning opportunities. Her research focuses on the hands-on program as architectural education and the influence on the local community.
