The School of Architecture is excited to announce that Dr. Kate Malaia has won the Architectural Research Centers Consortium (ARCC) 2024 New Researcher Award.
Architectural Research Centers Consortium (ARCC) New Researcher Award is given to acknowledge an early career achievement and promise in architectural or environmental design research. According to ARCC, Malaia “is an emerging voice in her field, studying transformations in Soviet housing in Ukraine in the post-Soviet period. In particular, she brings to light changes in the interiors of the ubiquitous Soviet housing blocks, connecting architectural transformations to social, economic, and political change.” ARCC equally recognizes the importance of Malaia’s work on Ukrainian architecture in light of the current events, and “the transferability of her approach to other geographical areas where understanding of cultural and socio-political factors can inform understanding of architectural form and space.”
